“Civil Aviation Industry Development Working Group”holds its First Meeting — Raymond Tam: Multi-party Collaboration to advance Aviation Market Liberalisation and the Development of the Aviation Hub (Port)

MACAU, November 4 - To advance in an orderly manner the liberalisation of market access for home base airlines and the development of the “Macao Pearl River West Bank International Air Transport Hub (Port)”, the Macao SAR Government has established the “Civil Aviation Industry Development Working Group”, chaired by Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raymond Tam. The Working Group held its first meeting today (4th). Tam urged all group members to strengthen cross-sector collaboration, comprehensively promote the high-quality development of Macao’s civil aviation industry, support the achievement of the development goals and strategic positioning set out in the Third Five-Year Plan, and help Macao better integrate into and serve our mother country’s overall development.

Tam noted that introducing new home base airlines and developing the aviation “Hub (port)” involves a wide range of issues, including the macroeconomic environment, tourism market development, infrastructure capacity and national security. He expressed the hope that members would work collaboratively to promote quality enhancement in Macao’s civil aviation industry and generate new momentum for Macao’s sustainable development.

The Working Group has two dedicated sub-groups: one responsible for matters relating to licences for commercial passenger air transport services, and the other for formulating a specific action plan for the development of the aviation “Hub (Port)”. At the meeting, the Civil Aviation Authority briefed the Working Group on the current state of Macao’s civil aviation industry, the new home base airline licensing regime, and progress on key infrastructure projects.

The meeting was attended by more than 10 representatives from the various member departments and entities.
