Russia, Ukraine Trade Accusations of Strikes During Geneva Talks
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its air defenses shot down 151 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 79 over the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. An additional 27 drones were reportedly intercepted between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Moscow time (0400–0600 GMT).
A fire broke out at the Ilsky oil refinery in the southern Krasnodar region as a result of the attack, affecting an area of roughly 700 square meters (7,534 square feet), according to local authorities.
Separately, Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin described a “massive” drone attack on the resort city, with falling debris reported in multiple locations, though no casualties or infrastructure damage were confirmed.
Russia’s air transport agency, Rosaviatsiya, temporarily restricted flights at airports in Sochi, Krasnodar, Nizhnekamsk, Gelendzhik, and Izhevsk, with the measures lifted in the morning.
In Ukraine, Serhii Lysak reported that at least two people were injured in Russian strikes on the port city of Odesa, which also damaged civilian buildings and infrastructure. Ukrainian private energy firm DTEK described damage to the city’s energy infrastructure as “extremely serious.”
In Dnipropetrovsk, Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said strikes affected a private enterprise, administrative buildings, homes, and vehicles in the regional administrative center.
